Rock Physics Analysis

  • 5014.png

PGS’ specialist approach to rock physics and AVO studies is based on a robust statistical rock physics workflow and is the foundation of more extensive quantitative interpretation studies enabling us to handle rock physics models in the depth domain.

The fundamental aim of the rock physics workflow is to understand the population behavior of key lithology and fluid combinations as a function of rock type, fluid content, reservoir quality and depth. The quantification of depth dependence is an important control on the range of expected rock properties and is a key factor in the assessment of discriminators for lithology and fluid prediction purposes.

Elastic rock property trends, as a function of depth, are defined using well information. This is achieved by a detailed interpretation of log data where end-member intervals are picked, up-scaled and cross-plotted. End-members are defined as the cleanest examples of the lithologies present and are based on an interpretation of all relevant well logs. This is indirectly based on mineralogy.
