Discontinuity Stability Analysis (DSA)

Visualize critically stress fractures

Critically stressed fractures play an important role in further analysis, such as planning hydraulic stimulation.

Plug-in Overview

An extension of Petrel Geomechanics (licensed by Petrel RG), DSA provides a simple process to analyze and visualize the stability of faults and fracture patches in the Petrel platform. Analysis of the local tectonic stress state and Mohr-Coulomb shear failure are displayed via a stability diagram or 3D window, providing valuable insight for fracture characterization and fault stability studies.

Specifications

  • Stability analysis of fault surfaces and fracture networks
  • Tool for plotting Mohr-Coulomb and steronet stability diagrams
  • Identify critical stressfractures and calculate critical pore pressure
  • Index filtering within an area of interest
  • Quick specification of custom tectonic stress states
  • Trends and spatially varying stress input
  • Integrates with Petrel Reservor Geomechanics and VISAGE simulations

Features

With the ability to analyze discrete fracture networks as well as Petrel platform surfaces, the plug-in provides a flexible tool for geomechanical analysis. Complex stress fields, including lateral variations and stress rotations can be accounted for through the integration with the Petrel Reservoir Geomechanics workflow. An index filter allows choosing a sector model for the analysis.
